Reading: Chester Nez, Code Talker: The first and only memoir by one of the original Navajo code talkers of WWII (2012), pp. 310
The Navajo code talkers produced the only unbroken code in modern warfare and used it to dupe the Japanese during World War II. Join us for a discussion of the invaluable contribution made by these individuals and one man’s struggle to serve a country that discriminated against his culture and traditions.
Discussions will be led by Hayley Hasik, military historian and educator at the Eisenhower Birthplace. Join us as we delve into some of the individual and lesser-known histories of World War II. Hayley will provide historical context and facilitate discussion each month. We encourage you to read the book before the meeting, but you are more than welcome to job us if you only read some of the book or just want to learn more about the topic. There are copies available for checkout at the Denison Public Library.
